SHOWING ARTICLE 32 OF 92

The Apperley Aptitude

Category News

It's tempting to begin this article by saying, the Apperley doesn't fall far from the tree. We'll refrain, and instead, explain that Spencer Apperley is a bit of a property legacy and is part of the second generation of Apperleys to call Seeff their home.

His journey into the world of real estate, while a natural one, wasn't always a foregone conclusion. In fact, Spencer studied Creative Brand Communication, arming him with advertising, marketing and branding prowess, not to mention the importance of a deadline.

"What I studied impacts my career immensely. Marketing in real estate means promoting one's unique value proposition to the world in order to build a brand, attract clients and close successful real estate transactions."

But the excitement of the industry caught Spencer early, and while still a student, he had the opportunity to assist with show houses and viewings for property developments.

"Coming from a family in property I was regularly exposed to the ups and downs of real estate. There was always a deal going down, it appeared to be thrilling, and I wasn't wrong."

Spencer, who is known for his warmth and personability, found fulfilment in assisting people in fulfilling their dreams and hasn't looked back since.

He now specialises in the City Bowl area and covers properties from Zonnebloem to Higgovale with equal passion. He's a city resident himself and enjoys the many perks of city life.

"I am a resident agent in the City Bowl. Each area has its own personality which keeps things interesting. For example, Higgovale is a family orientated suburb where homes are generally larger in comparison to the frenetic energy of Kloof Street. But the beauty of town is that there is something for everyone, from sectional titles to mansions - we've got the range."

Having witnessed a tumultuous couple of years in the industry, Spencer is well-positioned to give some sound property advice and is quick to say that it's still very much a buyers market.

"People are definitely downsizing or desire a lock up and go space which is why sectional titles are popular, especially if it has the added bonus of security features. The minimalism trend has allowed for micro-units where Millennials can now own their property and advance from their digs lifestyles. The focus is very much on Eat, Sleep and Play development with zero distance involved - so get involved in that if you're investing."

For someone in the earlier years of their career, Spencer has had a remarkable amount of experience and knows what it takes to succeed in an industry that relies on a heavy dose of self-motivation.

"For me, it's about choice. There is earning potential in real estate and you really do get to see the fruits of your hard work. It's also a great industry to be in if you like change, new trends and adapting to different markets. In real estate you experience different personality types, and really shape your own world."

Of course, it takes the support of a trusted brand to help get you there.

"Seeff is a respected company, and from an agent point of view, demands area speciality ie: know your hood and product, which translates into the best advice for our clients. We also have exceptional marketing tools available, coupled with a referral system throughout Southern Africa."

When this go-getter isn't closing deals, he's hiking mountains or crushing goals in the gym, listing long walks, hikes, and socialising with friends as his favourite pastimes.
