Seeff Cares with Agent, Alan Screen
Category News
As a real estate agent, it's expected to understand and care about the areas you sell. We all want our suburbs to be well serviced and maintained.
But it's another thing entirely to launch an initiative that impacts the greater communities of these areas.
We're so proud of Seeff Cares - an initiative started by Alan Screen, CBD and City Bowl agent, and Rowena Childes, Marketing Manager for Seeff Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl.
We caught up with Alan to understand his heart for the city and his vision for giving back.
Alan's long been an active member of the Seeff team - in real estate, lifestyle and, more recently, in the community. He's been with Seeff for over seven years and has had his most successful streak this year. But while we'd be impressed at that alone, it's the way he's consistently looking for avenues to give back that makes him so unique.
He's always loved participating in charitable events. He has done some insane incredible physical endurance events (like running from Joburg to Cape Town and the Platteklip Challenge) to raise money for charities close to his heart.
The idea for Seeff Cares came about during lockdown after Seeff contributed to raising money for Ladles of Love.
"We are a family of like-minded agents, and we all want to do our part in helping out the community," said Alan. "Rowena and I wanted to make Seeff's existing charitable efforts more streamlined, so now we have pillars and timelines."
The four pillars of Seeff Cares are Animals, the Elderly, the Environment and Children. Each year, they map out projects and charities that touch on all four pillars, with input from the rest of the team.
One project that Alan is proud of is the hygiene packs the team recently put together for a children's shelter based in Zonnebloem.
They are currently busy with a blanket run for dogs at the Fur-Get-Me-Knot leading up to Mandela Day on 18 July.
The team will also be getting together to make sandwiches which they'll distribute to local soup kitchens and feeding schemes in their areas.
We asked Alan what giving back means to him and why he's so passionate about doing so. He had this to say:
"It is desperate times out there for some people, and I honestly feel the smallest donation can make a huge difference or impact people's lives. I know I'm in an extremely fortunate position. A small donation of my time or money will make a big difference to someone in need who doesn't have a lot."
Alan invites the public to participate in Seeff Cares initiatives by following Seeff Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl on social media and contributing goods to their initiatives when needed.
Alan's heart is as big as the Atlantic Seaboard, and we're so very proud to call him part of the Seeff family.
