Jo Lombard's Fitness Tips

Category News

It's no secret that our luxury property specialist, Jo Lombard, prioritizes his health and fitness.

We sat down with Jo to chat about his exercise routine during lockdown and his home workout tips - which will hopefully inspire you, just as much as it inspired us! Most of all, if you want to stop hitting the snooze button on your alarm, keep reading 😉

"My motivation for regular exercise is a lot less about improving the way I look and a lot more about improving the way I feel. Being fit, healthy and focused is what's important to me" explains Jo.
"In fact, my regular exercise routine helped keep me sane during lockdown", he laughs.

Jo's Morning Exercise Routing

"The way I start my day sets the tone for the day ahead"

5am wake up (no snooze) it's "get up and go"

Jo likes to keep his workout sessions short, focused and efficient.

Quick cardio session

Living in Fresnaye, Jo makes use of the mountainous surrounds and the promenade. After his 5am wake-up he walks down to the Bantry Bay promenade. From there he takes a slow jog along Victoria Road until he reaches the famous Biskop stairs where he sprints up for two sets, followed by a high intensity run back home.

Home HIIT training

As soon as he gets back from his run, Jo begins a 10min Home HIIT session which involves skipping, core exercises and resistance training (Jo also uses resistance bands for his HIIT workout which he swears by) "If you want to fully engage your muscles, use resistance bands."

Cold water immersion

So, how does a typical workout end for Jo? In his ice-cold pool. Yup, you read that right. Jo is a strong believer in cold water immersion and its revitalizing benefits. The driving force behind this for Jo, is also psychological - "Let's face it, cold water immersion is extremely uncomfortable. By regularly exposing yourself to uncomfortable situations, you're essentially training your body and mind to become more resilient and to effectively move through uncomfortable tasks. It helps me to prime my mind and body so I am ready to tackle the day and any challenges it may bring." Jo explains.

And there you have it, folks! Overall, here are some summarized exercise tips, from Jo to you:

1. When your alarm goes off, get up and go!
2. If you have the opportunity to go outdoors, make the most of it and get your cardio done out in the open for some fresh air and a chance to clear your mind.
3. Do regular workouts at home, you don't need to go to the gym to exercise. Keep your workouts short and focused.
4. Give cold water immersion a try. If you don't have a pool - a cold shower could be a close second. Focus on your breathing, keep it slow and controlled. Wim Hof, eat your heart out!
