Camps Bay at a glance
Camps Bay is one of Cape Town's most breath-taking suburbs. Situated between Clifton and Llandudno beaches, and bordered by the spectacular Twelve Apostles mountain range, it's a popular summer attraction for locals and tourists who flock to the beach. Camps Bay also boasts restaurants and watering holes aplenty that line the famous sunset strip for fun that extends from sunrise and beyond sunset.
A brief history of the area
The first residents of Camps Bay were the San (Hunter-Gatherers) and the Goringqhaique, Khoi pastorates. Later, in the 1700s, the area was then granted to John Lodewyk Wernich and passed from father to son. Johan Wernich married Anna Koekemoer, who on his death in 1778, married Fredrick Ernst von Kamptz, a sailor and the area became known as "Die Baai van von Kamptz ''. For most of the 1800s Camps Bay was undeveloped. Lord Charles Somerset used the area for hunting and used the Roundhouse as his lodge. In the late 1800s, more roads were built that connected the city to Camps Bay as it was popular as a picnic site.
Climate
Camps Bay is sunny and warm for the most part, with cool winters and hot summers. While most days will be very pleasant, it is not quite as sheltered from the wind as its neighbouring Bantry Bay of Bakoven areas. That's alright though - there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to take shelter in if the wind comes up.

If you need to do some serious retail therapy, head to the V&A Waterfront Mall, which is a mere 10 minute drive away.
Distance from key points (Airports/CBD)
Camps Bay is about 15 minutes from the Cape Town CBD, and 40 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. It's just 10 minutes away from the V&A Waterfront.

There is often street entertainment as the sun goes down. The strip too, is another highlight as mentioned, and there you might enjoy the Camps Bay Theatre shows before dinner and a glitzy night out.
